FSC executive director Olliette Murry-Drobot was featured as a Woman to Watch in The Commercial Appeal. The article focused on Olliette’s own personal experiences with domestic violence, which has fueled her passion to help others who are suffering from a DV situation.
From the article: “I grew up in a home where there was family violence, and that experience has really made an impression on me,” said Murry-Drobot, executive director of the Family Safety Center of Memphis and Shelby County. “My mom is a survivor and has been really honest about her experiences. As I’ve grown up, I’ve had to really come to grips with my relationship with my father, who’s now deceased, and understand at the same time that he did some terrible things.”
In the article, Olliette shares that her father grew up in a violent home, which left him with a lot of unresolved anger that carried over into his adult life.
“I know how domestic violence can impact a family for generations to come,” she said. “That drove my desire to want to work with the Family Safety Center.”
