On Thursday, April 26, The Family Safety Center celebrated its grand opening in the Madison Professional Building located at 1750 Madison Ave., featuring special guest speaker Gov. Bill Haslam, along with key Memphis and Shelby County leaders, FSC staff, board members and representatives from the 23 partnering agencies involved in the center.
While the FSC staff has been working out of the sixth floor location since December, the ceremony marks the completed move of the partnering agencies that will have a permanent presence in the building, including the Exchange Club Family Center; Memphis Area Legal Services; Memphis Police Department – Domestic Violence Investigative Unit; Shelby County Crime Victims Center/Rape Crisis Center; Shelby County District Attorney General – Domestic Violence Unit; and Shelby County Sherriff’s Office – Domestic Violence and Sex Crimes Unit. Other partnering agencies that will work from the center on a part-time basis include MIFA – Division of Children and Family Services; Sofia’s House/Catholic Charities of West Tennessee; YWCA of Greater Memphis – Abused Women’s Services; and Jewish Family Center.
“Today is a day that’s truly worthy of a grand celebration for Memphis and Shelby County,” said Olliette Murry-Drobot, executive director of FSC. “The hard work and dedication of the many people who were involved in making Family Safety Center a reality will pay off for the victims and families who are struggling with domestic violence in our community. These victims now have a hand to hold through the process of help and healing that they desperately need.”
In addition to the agencies that have a working presence in the Madison Professional Building, FSC’s list of partners also includes multiple agencies that offer off-site services to victims, including the Bartlett Police Department; CHOICES: Center for Reproductive Health; Cocaine and Alcohol Awareness Program Inc. (CAAP, Inc.); Collierville Police Department; Community Legal Center; Emotional Fitness Centers; Germantown Police Department; Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital; Memphis Child Advocacy Center; Millington Police Department; Rock Church Memphis; Tennessee Department of Children’s Services; and Victims to Victory.
